Bible Text: Luke 16:19-31 |

The traditional Gospel Lesson for the First Sunday after Trinity depicts the familiar account of the rich man and Lazarus.  Jesus tells the story of two men: one rich, the other poor, but with the deaths of both of these men, a great reversal comes about.  Within this reversal is the theme of Jesus’ message: as self-sufficient as we try to be, as much as our culture wants us to pull ourselves up by our bootstraps, as smart as we think we are, true help comes from God.
